Monday, August 9: 

ISU WorkLife - Pathways to Fall | 11:00 am - 1:00 pm  Tents outside Beardshear Hall- look for the ISU WellBeing Flag

Join ISU WorkLife for our FINAL! Pathways to Fall gathering to celebrate a safe transition to fall, share WorkLife resources and connect with all of you! You can expect fun giveaways, complimentary chair massages, bottled water and snacks, programming information and more! Bring your Adventure2 hand sanitizer bottle or another small refillable bottle to stock up on sanitizer. ISU WorkLife staff and WellBeing Champions will be available to speak with you about our summer and fall programming. Childcare and Family Services staff will be available to answer questions and provide information on your family needs and upcoming programming. We would love to hear your experiences and input to help us better serve the needs of campus as we transition into fall.

ISU WellBeing: Meditation 301: Beyond Mindfulness- Cultivating Positive Emotions | 2:30 - 3:00 pm  

Many people begin a meditation practice to become calmer and happier. Too many times, however, it is used as an analgesic- removing the pain without addressing the cause. There are meditation techniques designed to cultivate easier access to positive emotions, such as loving-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity. We will focus on these practices during the summer, given that it may be stressful for everyone returning to work post-COVID. There is no better way to stay focused and productive when all around you is a little chaotic than to practice mindfulness. Join your colleagues and the ISU WellBeing team, and special guests, every Tuesday and Thursday mornings for a simple 15-minute mindfulness experience. For more information, click here  

Mindspring Mental Health Alliance Webinar: Understanding Bipolar Disorder| 12:00 - 1:00 pm 

Everyone experiences ups and downs, but bipolar disorder is different. An accessible guide to understanding the types of bipolar disorder, their symptoms, common misconceptions, and how relationships are impacted. Mindspring Mental Health Alliance Webinar: The Psychological Origins of Stigma & Bias | 12:00 - 1:00 pm 

How does cultural bias impact treatment, prevention & recovery? This one-hour session includes discussion of the origins of understanding mental illness, how misinformation is spread, and how stigma impacts individuals and families. ISU EAP Workshop: Building an Effective Team | 1:00 - 3:00 pm

How do you build an effective team when you are surrounded by others who may think, behave and see the world differently? This session offers participants the opportunity to learn what makes an effective team, the challenges that can get in the way and specific skills that each team member can practice on a day-to-day basis to improve relationships and team performance. Course objectives include: Build a vision of an effective team based on members' own values and experiences, review the natural stages of team development, examine the barriers to effective team communication, and learn practical communication skills that each team member can apply to improve team relationships.          ISU WellBeing - Walk and Talk | Virtual at 12:10 pm

ISU WellBeing is committed to creating a walking community (even virtually) for ISU employees. Summer in Iowa is here and it’s time to get outside, move and re-connect! Whether you are on campus or at a non-campus location we welcome you to join us for our summer season of Friday Walk and Talks now until August 13. Walk with us, the ISU WorkLife and WellBeing Team, and your colleagues via Webex every Friday at 12:10 pm for 20-minutes from your own location. Or, if you have transitioned back to campus, we have a small group on campus too. You can meet us in front of Beardshear at 12:10 pm and walk with others on our beautiful ISU campus.
