If you work at Vet Med and have trouble getting to central campus for Friday Walk and Talks, we have good news for you- Walk and Talks have come to Vet Med! Walk and Talks are an excellent way to connect and network with others. Walks will continue every Monday through May 23, 2022. No registration is required. Mindspring Mental Health Alliance Webinar: Managing Emotions through Connection | 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm 

This webinar explores why receiving emotional support as children helps us to manage our emotions as adults. Learn the types of emotional support children need from infancy through adolescence and the tools caregivers need to provide what each stage needs. NAMI Iowa: Ending The Silence For Teens | 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm | Ames Public Library Rotary Room

Join this engaging presentation to learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if you or a loved one are showing symptoms of a mental illness. Audience members can ask questions and gain understanding of an often-misunderstood topic. Through dialogue, we can help grow the movement to end stigma. This presentation is for teens and their loved ones. For more information, click here

It can be difficult to unplug living in a world of constant connection and perpetual multi-tasking. If you feel like your day is a series of alerts, notifications, and reminders, you are not alone. The average person checks his or her phone 150 times a day which makes it difficult to concentrate on tasks, projects and those around you. Several studies show tht we need time away from our personal devices in order to refresh and recharge. Learn how unplugging a bit each day can be beneficial to your personal relationships and increase productivity in the workplace. Course Objectives: Focus on mindfulness, discover the truth behind multi-tasking, identify ways to cut back on excessive screen time, and stablish personal time outs to enhance productivity. Thursday June 16: Employee & Family Resources EAP Workshop: Food and Mood | 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Counting calories, fats, carbohydrates, and proteins are some of the most common ways to track eating habits and nutritional intake. But when was the last time you monitored your mood as it relates to what and how much you eat? Emotional eating is a common response to stress and fatigue, and it can lead to unhealthy eating habits, which can lead to chronic health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. In this seminar you’ll reflect on current eating habits, learn ways to track mood and food, and identify the difference between hunger, boredom, and stress eating. Course Objectives: Learn the difference between mindful and mindless eating, identify food triggers as they relate to emotions, and learn the best foods to eat when stressed.
