The COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant changes to daily life as people adjust to a new normal. But for many Iowans, the pandemic also has caused loss of employment, reduced social contact and fewer connections with loved ones. This sense of loss and isolation combined with the many stresses produced by the pandemic have left people in many walks of life feeling sad, down, blue or simply lonely. This short virtual program is designed to provide education about the feelings of sadness and loss and how people can manage and overcome them. Individuals will also receive practical resources to help them navigate the strong feelings provoked by the pandemic. Opportunities for discussion will also be provided.   Presented by Andrea Gustafson, Crisis/Outreach Counselor; COVID Recovery Iowa  For more information and to register go here.

ISU WellBeing is committed to creating a walking community (even virtually) for ISU employees. To support this community, we are continuing with the Friday Walk and Talks, but just not as a large group on campus. Whether you are on campus or working remotely, having to maintain physical distancing can feel isolating at times. We want to support you in every way. Join us virtually by taking the time to get up, get out, and walk for your well-being!

This fall (September 4- November 20) we are continuing to encourage you to take a break from the work you are doing and go on a one-mile walk with us every Friday. There are lots of ways to connect during this time and we have listed a few below for you to try:

  • Join the ISU WellBeing team via Webex every Friday at 12:10 pm!
  • Call a colleague, family member, or friend and talk on the phone while you walk
  • Encourage those in your place of residence to walk with you – kids, spouse, etc.
  • Take your pet on a walk – good for you, good for them.
