ISU WorkLife and WellBeing is once again partnering with Ames Lab Occupational Medicine to provide flu vaccinations to eligible ISU employees. The vaccine is provided at no cost as a service. For more details about the clinic, location, parking etc. click here. Please note that as this is a satellite location of Occupational Medicine, face coverings are required in the clinic area.

ISU WellBeing: Meditation 301: Compassionate Action | 2:30 - 3:00 pm

The world is a dynamic and difficult place where it's easy to feel overwhelmed.  How can we build the inner resources to work with others' distress as well as our own, so that we can be of benefit without getting burned out?  We will focus on meditation techniques and teachings that can help us to build trust in ourselves and our ability to handle our experience.  There is no better way to stay focused and productive when all around you is a little chaotic than to practice mindfulness. Join your colleagues and the ISU WellBeing team, and special guests, every Tuesday and Thursday mornings for a simple 15-minute mindfulness experience. Mindspring Mental Health Alliance Webinar: Creating a Low Stress Environment & Minimizing Crises | 12:00 - 1:00 pm 

Families are susceptible to strain from a number of sources including work and school obligations, illness, finances, interpersonal conflict, and more. Learn strategies to create and maintain a low-stress environment, how to identify & respond to ‘red flags’, and tips for communicating in times of crisis with a licensed therapist. For more information and to register, click here

Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching Workshop: Myths of Mindfulness | 12:10 - 1:30 pm 

Meditation is like exercise - everyone knows it would be good for them, but they don't really want to do it. Part of the reason some people have a difficult time maintaining a mindfulness practice is because they believe one or more of the myths of mindfulness, such as you're supposed to stop thinking. In this workshop, Douglas Gentile, ISU Psychology Professor, will explore several of the myths of mindfulness and do some practices to see how to begin a sustainable personal practice. ISU WorkLife EAP Webinar: Recognizing Emotional Intelligence | 1:00 - 3:00 pm 

Why do some people seem to persevere in adversity and others quit? Just what does the phrase Emotional Intelligence (EQ) mean? This training will explain the difference between EQ and IQ and the importance of EQ in the workplace. The popular use of the term refers to mixed traits that include: self-awareness, motivation and persistence, optimism and the ability to manage one's emotions. Course Objectives: Define and describe EQ, discover the importance of EQ, understand the components of EQ, learn applications of EQ in the workplace, and acquire skills and build your EQ muscles. Understanding how to effectively support friends and family members with mental health disorders is essential. Join us as we continue our Friday Walk & Talks this fall. We’ll meet on Fridays at 12:10 on the front steps of Beardshear for a one mile walk around our picturesque ISU campus. Come walk and talk with friends, colleagues, or just come and enjoy the beauty of campus. Join ISU WorkLife and WellBeing and de-stress from the week.
