We want to connect with you! Every Wednesday join your ISU WellBeing team, or special guest, in a conversation on well-being during these challenging times. ​​​​This week's topic: TAO (Therapy Assisted Online): An Introduction to a New Resource at ISU

Student Counseling Services is excited to offer a new service available to all ISU students, staff, and faculty. TAO (Therapy Assisted Online) is an online library of evidence-based, engaging, interactive programs that address mental health challenges and life stressors. TAO (pronounced taʊ like now) consists of educational modules, quick assessments, practice tools and logs, and a library of mindfulness resources. Today you will learn more about the topics covered and resources available in TAO, as well as how to sign up.

Guest Leader: Dr. Douglas Gentile is a professor of psychology, who studies how mass media influence children as well as how mindfulness techniques can help us to be happier and less anxious.  He is a certified meditation teacher, as well as a fully-ordained Zen Monk.

Friday, August 7: 

This week's topic: Remote Work and Families

This talk discusses recent research on the extent of working from home due to the covid-19 global pandemic, as well as early evidence on the extent of the impact on parents and women. Looking forward, Matt Clancy also describes trends that suggest remote work is here to stay, and evidence that working from home is probably better for working families during "normal" times.

  • ISU WellBeing - Walk and Talk - Walk on your own or join the ISU WellBeing team at 12:10 for a virtual walk via Webex.  For more information go here. 

This summer we are continuing our encouragement for you to break from the work you are doing and go on a one-mile walk with us every Friday. There are lots of ways to connect during this time and we have listed a few below for you to try:

  • Call a colleague, family member, or friend and talk on the phone while you walk
  • Encourage those in your place of residence to walk with you – kids, spouse, etc.
  • Take your pet on a walk – good for you, good for them
  • Go it alone and enjoy the quiet and peace of the day away from everyone else
  • Or, join the ISU WellBeing team via Webex every Friday!
